Vernon Northrup passed away on March 23.
He was born September 19, 1918 in Wilmington, Del to the late Edna [E.] Streeter [Northrup] and Clarence James Northrup. He was the eldest son and preceded in death by brothers, Eugene of Seaford [DE], Malcolm of Cambridge, MD and adopted brother Jerry and adopted sister Peggy and a son, Van.
Growing up in Delmar he spent summers at camp on the Nanticoke. He enjoyed the trains, and later in life along with his brothers enjoyed model trains.
Vernon graduated from Delmar High Scool, 1937, Wake Forest College 1941, and Crozer Theological Seminary, 1944. He attended Navy Chaplains School at the College of William and Mary.
He met his wife, Agnes and they married in Gardena California, 1945. They moved 25 times during his 29 years of active duty. Later they settled in San Diego, California and in 2002 moved to Beaumont, Texas.
He is survived by wife, Agnes and daughter Nancy McMillan, Beaumont, Texas.
There was a memorial service at Calder Woods [Senior Living Community, in Beaumont] on March 27. Vernon did not want a formal funeral service, the Rev. Fuller called the service a "Gathering".
