GERTRUDE BROCKHOFF
(1834 - 1902)
Death laid its hand on a weary frame and closed its eyes in dreamless sleep when the soul of Mrs. Gertrude Brockhoff abandoned its earthly abode and left the frail clay for mortals to weep over. Over a year disease had marked the pilgrim for its own and though the final dissolution was but a matter of time, it was with amazing fortitude that the victim bore her cross.
Mrs. Brockhoff was born in Germany in 1834, came to America in 1854,settling in the town of Kossuth residing there until 1894 when she moved to the city to the home in which she died. She was married to Henry Brockhoff and thirteen children were born to the union, eight still surviving, Theodore of Minnesota, Henry and Joseph of the vicinity, Mrs. Anna Neal, Mrs. Katherine Dirkman, Mrs. Gertrude Bolle, Mrs. Bertha Schadeberg and Mrs. Rose Schadeberg, all residing in the city or near by. The husband, Henry Brockhoff also survives. The funeral takes place Wednesday and the interment will be at Francis Creek.

The deceased was born in Westphalia in 1834 and came to America with her husband in 1854. The couple operated a farm in Town Kossuth where they faced all the hardships of pioneer life. In 1894 they retired to Manitowoc.
In addition to her husband the deceased is survived by 8 children.
Her body was taken to Francis Creek and laid to rest at the cemetery there yesterday morning.
