Actor, Writer. Born in Harlem, New York City, he appeared in numerous films and televison shows during his career, including "Go West Young Man" (1936), "Cabin In The Sky" (1943), "Carmen Jones" (1954), and he played Willy Willy, the African guide in the 1953 TV series, Ramar of the Jungle. He composed the hit musical "Carnival Island" and appeared in the 1939 Broadway hit play "Louisana Purchase." Stewart is perhaps best known in his role of "Lightnin" on the Amos 'n' Andy television series, and also gained recognition as the voice of Brer Bear in the 1946 Disney animated film "Song of the South."
