Marion Gale Scott, 80, died at 4:47 p.m. at the VA Northern Indiana Health Care System in Marion on Monday, June 15, 2015. He was born in Marion, IN, to the late Ory Asher and Vera Iola (Jarvis) Scott. He was married to Betty Arlene Scott until her death on August 14, 2003. Marion was a 1953 Marion High School graduate. He enlisted in the Marine Corps and served during the Korean War from 1954-1957. He was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Marksman Badge. Marion was a slitter operator at Bell Fibre and retired after 35 years. He also worked for 10 years at Standard Groceries and 6 years at Shrotes Market. More recently, Marion was a cook at St. James Lutheran's Good Shepherd Daycare, and the children loved him very much.Marion was a hard worker and he dearly loved his family and children. He was a man of great courage and strength, who fought a courageous battle with cancer the last year of his life. He is survived by his sweetheart, Kaye Lyons, Anderson; sons, Gregory and Andrew Scott, both of Gas City, and Michael (Barbara) Scott, Brooklyn, MI; sister, Fay Sharp, Naples, FL; grandchildren, Jamie Bennett, Traci Scott, Erika (Graham) Sherrell, Katelyn Scott, and Shaun (Jessica) Scott; 7 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; extended family, Jeffrey Lyons, Gregory (Pam) Lyons, Chad Lyons, Lacinda Paules; several other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; dear friends, Diane Kelley, Nancy Ohlheiser, Bill and Cindy Bergman, the Hostess House staff, the McCord family, Jan Evans, and Butch Lyons.His sister, Caroline Scott, and brother-in-law, Hugh "Bud" Sharp, also preceded him in death.The family will receive visitors on Friday, June 19, 2015, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the VA Protestant Chapel in Marion National Cemetery. Services will begin at 1 p.m. with Pastor Donna Madewell officiating.Arrangements were entrusted to Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, Indiana.
