PFC Barry M. Hillsgrove served in Vietnam with A Company, 3rd Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, in the 4th Infantry Division. He died as a result of gunshot wounds suffered when his company was ambushed on the southern slopes of Hill 1198 in Kontum Province, on the 30th of March, 1968.

His awards include the Combat Infantry Badge, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
His name is on the Vietnam Memorial Wall, Panel 47 East, Line 12.
