After a lingering illness at his residence, No. 88 Fourth street, Troy, George P. Ide, prominent as a collar manufacturer and financier, passed away at 12:30 o’clock yesterday morning. …
George Peck Ide was born at Corinth, Saratoga county, New York, on February 28, 1836, and thus 71 years of age. He was educated in the public school of the village but at an early age he left school to assist his father, who conducted the general store in the village and was also the justice of the peace there. At the age of twenty-one he went to Troy. … in 1865, with S. V. R. Ford as a partner he organized the business which has grown to be one of the leading shirt and collar manufacturing concerns of the country. … developed the small factory to the mammoth concern known today the world over as George P. Ide & Co. …

At the time of his death Mr. Ide was president of the Troy Manufacturers’ National bank, an institution with which he became affiliated at the time of its organization. … on January 8 last , he was elected president for the twenty-fifth time, … He was also vice president of the Security Trust company; resident of the American District Telegraph company, and president of the Magnetic Ore Separator company. … He was for many years a director of the United Traction company … During his life Mr. Ide was a staunch Republican. He never sought political honors …

Besides his wife, Mr. Ide is survived by four sons and two daughters – Alba M., Herbert, S., A. Harris, George P., Jr., and Mrs. Albert E. Cluett of Troy, and Mrs. Windsor P. French of Saratoga; two brothers, Daniel B. Ide, of Corinth, and G. Chauncey Ide, of Troy and one sister, Mrs. E. W. Simpson, of Troy.

The funeral of George P. Ide was held yesterday morning at the residence in Troy. There was a large attendance, including many prominent in business and financial circles of Troy. The officiating clergymen was the Rev. Arthur J. Wyman of the First Presbyterian church. The bearers were the four sons, Alba M. Ide, Herbert S. Ide, Ariel H. Ide and George P. Ide, Jr.; two sons-in-law, Albert E. Cluett and Winsor P. French, and James M. Ide and Frank B. Twining. …
