Rock Musician. A bass player (known for his trademark Rickenbacker 4001), he was a founding member of the British music ensemble "Yes." Born Christopher Russell Edward Squire, his father was a cab driver, Chris developed a fondness for music at an early age and participated in his church choir. By his late teens, he had experience playing in a number of bands including "The Syn" and "Toy Shop." He departed the later with guitarist Peter Banks and vocalist Jon Anderson to form the Progressive music-based "Yes." They released their first two studio albums which included the self-titled debut record in 1969 and "Time and a Word" (1970). The third album "The Yes Album" (1971) included their classic songs "Yours is No Disgrace," "Starship Trooper" and "I've Seen All Good People" and established Squire as a top-notch bass player who enhanced the group's unique sound. In 1975, he made his mark as a solo artist with his album "Fish Out of Water." In 1983, the band reached their plateau of commercial success with "90125" which featured the number one hit "Owner of a Lonely Heart." This was followed with their album "Big Generator" (1987). Although there have been numerous lineup changes, Squire remained a consistent member on both studio and live performances. In 2017, Squire was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Yes.
