Former Resident of Lowville, Brother of Joseph H. Gerner, Passes Away Suddenly in Chicago.
News was received here last Thursday November 19th, of the death of Daniel Gerner, who had suddenly passed away at his home in Chicago at are early hour of that day. He had retired in apparent good health, his demise being therefore entirely unexpected and unlooked for. Mr. Gerner was born in New York city, June 16, 1864, being 61 years of age. He was the son of the late Joseph and Johanna Fredericka Friscshe-Gerner. He came to Lowville with his parents in 1867 and his boyhood days were passed in this village. After attaining the age of 17 years he went to Utica to work, later on to Ilion. A year afterward he went west, where he had since remained, coming home at rare intervals to visit his relatives.
He spent some years in travel, engaging in various pursuits. For the past 25 years he had been In South Chicago, in the mercantile business. He is remembered here by some of the older citizens for his keen sense of humor and genial disposition.
About 35 years ago he married Miss Mary Ryan of Chicago, who survives as does also an adopted child named Elizabeth, now grown to womanhood. The couple never had children of their own. Three brothers also survive, Herman H., of Gouverneur; David B of Carthage, and Joseph H., of Lowville. Interment was made in Waldheim cemetery, Chicago.

Per a photo volunteer: This is one of the areas at Oak Woods that actually have good ground location markers. I was in the right area but didn't see any headstones for Daniel or Mary, just grass in empty areas where the stones should have been.
