Doris was born on September 23, 1932 in Detroit, the daughter of Charles and Ivory (Fauver) Ware. On July 11, 1952 she married Charles Daniel Henderson in Sanford, MI. She worked 8 years with J.W. Knapp and retired after 10 years of service as a cook with the Lansing School District. She was a member of the Mt. Hope Church of St. Johns. Doris’ dear friend Irene Henderson had a very handsome brother name Charles. Doris was hoping Charles would take notice of her. Following him into a candy store to acquire a few treats to hold him over while he drove his cab. Doris strolled up to the counter with hope he would notice her. Much to her surprise Charles turned quickly bumping in to her and dropping all of his treats. Charles did recognize her as Irene’s friend & Charles and Ivory’s daughter, she assisted him with the collection of his snacks and he hurriedly headed to is cab. Not quite the recognition she had hoped for as she stood there with her heart still fluttering. Not long after… Charles arrived at his parents’ (Charles and Inez) home for a visit before heading off to Church, to find them and his Brother Clarence entertaining their good friends Ivory & Charles Ware and their daughter Doris. Matchmaking believed to be the intention. Charles said a quick hello then quickly scurried out to his intended church meeting. Doris when right out the door behind him and asked if he minded if she joined him. Charles said sure jump in. After the meeting Charles asked Doris if she would like to get a hamburger with him Doris consented. Soon after… Charles proposed to Doris under the small weeping willow tree in his parent’s front yard. They were married just two short weeks after their first date that consisted of the Church and a burger. The two have been inseparable since.
