Professional Football Player. For three seasons (1956 to 1958), he played at the defensive end, defensive tackle and linebacker positions in the National Football League with the Chicago Bears and New York Giants. He made his initial mark on the football field at Etowah High School in Alabama and continued his athletics at Auburn University. Selected by the Bears during the 2nd round of the 1956 NFL Draft, he totaled 32 career regular season games. Brackett was one of the largest players during his era with the stature of six feet, five inches and the weight of 240-plus pounds. He experienced an NFL Title Game in 1956 with the Bears and after he was acquired by the Giants, he contributed to their reaching of the 1958 NFL Championship Game. The 1958 NFL Title Game has since been referred to as "The Greatest Game Ever Played." After retiring from football, he worked in the steel industry for more than twenty years.
