Deaths
Bailey - Mrs. C.W. Bailey, one of the highly honored and beloved women of Winfield passed away Wednesday evening shortly after ten o'clock at the family home, 1120 East Seventh avenue after a lingering illness. The death of Mrs. Bailey was the first to occur in her immediate family of nine children and though not expected came as a shock to the companion of over a half century and the children all who have been at her bedside within the past two weeks to minister to her in her sufferings. All will be here for the funeral with the exception of one son, Walter E., of Portland, Oregon, who returned to his home a few days ago. The family has suffered an affliction, but fortunately the mother lived until manhood and womanhood crowned all her children. No higher eulogy can be pronounced upon any woman than that she hath fulfilled her highest mission on earth, a true and faithful wife and devoted mother and in these qualities Mrs. Bailey excelled. Mrs. Bailey was a life long member of the Methodist Episcopal church and her life was consistent with her beliefs. Few, if any homes in her neighborhood in past years have not felt her aid and sympathy in sickness.

Eleanor Elizabeth Davis was born in Boston, Massachusetts on July 20, 1842, and was 76 years, 8 months and 6 days old. In infancy her parents moved to New York State and later to Bridgeport, Ohio, and thence to Pawnee, Illinois. She was married to C.W. Bailey on December 25, 1865 shortly after Mr. Bailey received his honorable discharge from the Civil War. Their Wedding was the culmination of a boyhood and girlhood friendship and have trodden the path of wedded life together for over fifty-three years.

Nine children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Bailey and with the husband survive. They are Walter E. Bailey of Portland, Ore.; Mrs. Charles Mosier and W.J. Bailey of Maple City; Henry Bailey, Mrs. Bert Smith and Miss Florence Bailey of Wichita; Gordon Bailey of Wellington, Miss Edna and Miss Mayme Bailey at home and one brother, I.N. Davis of Nevada and one sister, Mrs. James Saunders of Newton also survive her memory. Mr. and Mrs. Bailey came to Kansas in 1879 first locating in Butler county and moving to Cowley county in 1880 and settling on a farm southwest of Winfield. In 1883 they moved to a farm near Maple City where they resided until 1900 when Mr. Bailey was elected to the office of register of deeds and they moved to Winfield where they have since lived. The funeral will be held from the home Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. E.F. Buck of the First Methodist Episcopal church. Interment will be made in Union cemetery.
