In 1930, he was a member of the Philadelphia Athletics World Series Championship and led the American League in double with 47 in 1932. For fourteen seasons, he played with the Philadelphia Athletics (1929-35), Boston Red Sox (1936-38), Chicago White Sox (1939-40) and Detroit Tigers (1941-42). He finished his career with a record of 592 runs scored, 1240 hits, 82 home runs, 633 runs batted in and a .274 batting average. He died of a heart attack at age 39.
