German from Russia. Son of Ludwig and Katherina (Senger) Erck, born in Strassburg, Kutchurgan District, Kherson Province, Russian Empire (modern day Kutschurgan, Odessa Oblast, Ukraine). Strassburg was a Mother colony in the Kutschurgan enclave of German colonies in South Russia founded in 1808 by Germans from the Alsace region of France.

Conrad, his parents and two siblings, Gabriel and Helena, immigrated to the United States on 5 Apr 1886, arriving at Castle Garden at the Port of New York. HIs father immediately homesteaded in Pierce county, North Dakota. Conrad also homesteaded in Pierce county in May 1897.

Conrad married Christina Biegler in Hague, ND in 1894. Together they had nine children.

After the sudden death of his wife in 1914, Conrad married Katherina (Hulm) Weisenberger in 1915 in Bismarck and moved the family to South Dakota.

Conrad was one of the pioneers of Corson county, South Dakota, having done extensive farming around Timber Lake and Trail City where the family lived until 1927, after which they retired to Mobridge.

When in Pierce County, Conrad was Postmaster for town/village of Odessa.
