ALBRO, WAITE 92, died Wednesday, July 8, 2015. Waite was born at home in West Greenwich, RI on May 10, 1923, the son of John I. and Emily Beattie Albro. He attended West Greenwich and Coventry public schools. He served in the Coast Artillery and as a P-38 fighter pilot in the Army Air Force. Upon returning home, he took over his father's business, the Lake Mishnock Grove. He was elected a State Representative on a reform independent ticket, an office he later filled as a Republican. He served as West Greenwich Town Council President, as well as Chairman of the Republican Town Committee.

He was a Scout Leader in the Pawtuxet Valley District as a Scoutmaster, Explorer Advisor, District Camping Chairman and Advancement Chairman. He organized and led a trip to the Philmont Scout Ranch in Taos, N.M. with 50 Scouts on a chartered bus.

He and Dave Jones organized the Lake Mishnock Volunteer Fire Company and Waite served as its first chief.

He married Marilyn Zackarian who bore him seven children. In 1960 at the age of forty, Waite enrolled in Barrington College as a philosophy major. In 1983 Waite met and married Liz Cote in 1993 in Avon, Maine. Liz died several years later, a victim of breast cancer.

Waite authored two books of memoirs dealing with his early years at Lake Mishnock. He later co-authored a history of West Greenwich, "In the Shadow of the Trees," with Pawtuxet Valley historian, Mat Harpin.

He leaves his seven children: Maril and companion Bob Peterson, his son Waite A., son Mark and his wife, Karlene; daughter Laurie Albro, son Dan and his wife Kelly; daughter Joni Albro, and youngest daughter Nancy Albro. In addition he leaves thirteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

He is survived by one sister Susan Fontaine and husband James of West Greenwich. He was the brother of Carolyn A. Breene, John I. Albro Jr.; Mildred Albro and Mary Curls.

There will be a memorial service with military honors for Waite at the Mishnock Barn in West Greenwich on Sunday, July 19th, 4 – 8 pm please join us for the celebration of his life.
