Mrs. Geraldine S. Wittred, 53, died at 2:25 p.m. yesterday in the City hospital where she and her husband, William Ernest Wittred, 42, were taken Wednesday after they were found overcome by gas fumes in their trailer home at the farm of Taber Adams on Harding Highway E. Mrs. Wittred died without regaining consciousness, and Mr. Wittred who also was unconscious when they were found shortly after noon Wednesday, has not revived. The fumes came from a refrigerator operated by bottled gas, the sheriff's office reported.

The Wittreds had recently sold their home at 290 Clover Avenue and Saturday went to Columbus to get their newly purchased trailer. They spent the night in the trailer in front of their former home on Clover Avenue and Sunday moved it to the Adams farm. Their two children, Mary Dianne, 13, and Geri Kay, two, spent one night with their parents in the trailer, but had returned to the city to be with their grandmother, Mrs. Orpha B. Wittred of 644 East Church street.

The new trailer, consisting of five rooms, was purchased by the family in anticipation of going either to California or Florida after being advised by a physician that a change of climate would improve the health of their two-year-old daughter, Geri Kay. They had previously ordered a trailer from a Dayton firm but purchased this one with the delivery of the other one was delayed.

The couple were found Wednesday when Mr. Adams investigated after Mr. Wittred, who is employed at the Marion Engineer Depot, failed to report for work. Receiving no answer to his knocks on the door he summoned Sheriff Leroy Retterer who entered the trailer by breaking a window when he was unable to open the door.

Mrs. Wittred was born Nov. 8, 1912 at Richmond Dale, Ohio, near Chillicothe, to John E. Pleasant, a native of Hamden, Ohio and Marguerite Siegler Pleasant, whose birthplace was Richmond Dale. Her marriage to Mr. Wittred took place June 20, 1933. She was a member of Epworth Methodist Church and the Good Cheer Circle of the King's Duaghters. She was at one time employed at the Kresgee Co. 25 cent and Dollar Store and Montgomery Ward Co., and some time ago was employed at the Marion Engineer Depot.

Surviving with the husband and the two daughters are her mother, Mrs. Pleasant who lives at 331 South State St., one sister, Mrs. Mary B. Hanawalt, wife of Dr. C.E. Hanawalt, of Ashland, KY., and former superintendent at the Marion City hospital, and one brother John G. Pleasant of Bedford, Ind.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Merle H. Hughes Mortuary on Mt. Vernon Ave., with Dr. V.E. Busler, pastor of Epworth Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be mad in the Marion cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Saturday. (published in the Marion Star (OH), Oct. 11, 1946, page 1)
