These joined lots were reserved for NY Volunteers who served in the Civil War. But Private Benci served in a Maine company. There is apparently some controversy regarding the name BENCI. There is a stone in South Springfield Cemetery in Maine bearing the name Philo Bearce. His Find-a-Grave memorial page gives the same birth and death dates (1839-1862, Find-a-Grave record 104863203) as Pvt Benci. His death on July 14 1862 in Manhattan, where he was mustered out, is documented. Cemetery records give Nov 6 1863, over a year after his death, as the burial date for BENCI (as the name was spelled in the handwritten record--this spelling is neither an interpretive nor a transcription error). So--we have a Philo Benci and a Philo Bearce, both from Maine, serving in the same company, both 1839-1862. Mystery.
