A veteran character actor of motion pictures and television known for his portrayals of edgy characters with gangland or police affiliations, his role as 'Moe Greene' in the 1972 film classic The Godfather' would be his most iconic role. Born Alexander Federico Petricone, Jr., he was involved with Boston's Winter Hill Gang during the early 1960s before moving to California, initially working as a bartender, and began taking acting classes with such teachers as Leonard Nimoy and noted acting teacher Jeff Corey. Rocco had small roles in such films as 'The St Valentine’s Day Massacre' (1967) and 'The Boston Strangler' (1968), and appearances on TV shows like 'Batman' and 'That Girl', before landing the role of Moe Greene in Francis Ford Coppola’s iconic classic 'The Godfather'. Among other films he appeared in were 'The Friends of Eddie Coyle' (1973), 'Freebie and the Bean' (1974), 'Rabbit Test' (1978), 'The Stunt Man' (1980), 'Cannonball Run II' (1984), 'Dream a Little Dream' (1989), 'Get Shorty' (1995), 'That Thing You Do' (1996), 'The Wedding Planner' (2001) and 'Find Me Guilty' (2006). On television, he appeared on many shows, including 'Get Smart', 'The F.B.I.', 'Mission: Impossible', 'Kojak', 'Cannon', 'Police Story', 'Starsky and Hutch', 'Matt Houston', 'T.J. Hooker', 'The Facts of Life', 'The Division' and 'Magic City'. He voiceover work on 'The Simpsons', 'Family Guy', 'The Angry Beavers' and the movie 'A Bug’s Life' (1998). . Rocco, who received an Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in 'The Famous Teddy Z' in 1990, died of natural causes.
