Sylvia was born in Switzerland County, Indiana to James Oliver Robbins and Charlotte Isabel Glenn Robbins.
She married her true love, Jesse Luther Patterson on 23 November 1912 in Brookville, Franklin County, Indiana.
She had a beautiful singing voice and sang in the church choir when she was young. Sylvia also wrote poetry and even had some poems published in a local newspaper. She was a hard worker. She took care of the house and children while Jesse was away from sunup to sundown while he was logging in the winters. She gardened, sewed most of the clothes for her family, washed clothes on a washboard, canned hundreds of quarts and pints of fruits and vegetables. She sugar cured our meats, churned butter, baked pies, cakes, and cookies from scratch, gathered eggs and fresh greans from the fields, plus the usual housekeeping chores. Now and then, she even helped with the field farming in the summer if Jesse got behind.
She was a very kind, gentle person and never had a bad word to say about anyone.
She died 10 Feb 1959 in Rush County, Indiana and is still missed.

Their children were:
Helen Louise (William Thomas Spoonamore)
Keith (Stillborn)
Opal Frances (Lowell York Young)
George Oliver (Myrtle Lucille Clark)
Alva Luther (Frances Marie Fornshell)
Paul Edwin (Edna Ruth Brees)
Jesse Norman
Dale Duane (Judith Ann Watson)
Linda Lee (Robert Keller Lanter)
