Jazz Bandleader,Composer. He will perhaps be best remembered for his co-writing of the song "A-Tisket, A-Tasket," which became a hit for Ella Fitzgerald in 1938. Born Alexander Feldman into a Jewish New York family, his mother a classical pianist trained young Alexander and instilled a fondness for music in which he carried his entire life. His break in the industry came when he was hired by bandleader Chick Webb to write arrangements. Following Webb's death in 1939, Alexander moved to California and formed his own band. The abundance of opportunities in films and TV for him soared during the 1950s, beginning with "The Mickey Rooney Show." Among his other credits include "Hazel," "Bewitched," "I Dream of Jeannie" and "The Dean Martin Show." His film credits include "Baby Face Nelson" (1957), "The Last Mile" (1959) and "Safe at Home!" (1962). During the course of his career, he received three Emmy Award nominations. He died of complications related to advanced age.
