Herbert Leo "Herb" Schmedt, 92, of the Illinois Veteran's Home in Quincy, died at 5:00 p.m. Sunday (July 26, 2015) at the Illinois Veteran's Home.

Born March 24, 1923 in Greeley, Colorado, Herb was the son of Ernst and Mary Schoenborn Schmedt. In 1951, he married Dona Taylor in Keokuk, Iowa. She survives.

Mr. Schmedt served his country as a pilot in the U. S. Army Air Corp during WW II.

Mr. Schmedt was employed as a metalurgist for Caterpillar.

At the request of Mr. Schmedt, cremation has been accorded. Graveside services with Military Honors will be held Wednesday morning (August 5, 2015) in Sunset Cemetery at the Illinois Veteran's Home by the Rev. John Adams.

There is no visitation, but friends are invited to attend the graveside service. The Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Illinois Veteran's Home Activity Fund.
