THE SUNSHINE STATION RAILWAY DISASTER
On the night of Easter Monday, 20 April 1908, over 400 were injured and 44 people died as a result of a Melbourne-bound train from Bendigo colliding with the rear of a mail train from Ballarat, which was just leaving the station. Around 1,100 people were aboard the two trains. Almost all of the casualties were from the Ballarat train, as the Bendigo train was cushioned by its two locomotives.

Son of John Nankervis and Nanny (Chirgwin) Nankervis.

Married Georgina Maria Lang in 1887 in Victoria.

Father of Lawrence Lang Nankervis, Wm. Raymond Nankervis [who received a dislocated hip in the collision], twins Georgina Lang Nankervis and Horace Lang Nankervis, Elsie Annie May (Nankervis) Cornwell, and Clifford Nankervis.


NANKERVIS- On the 20th April (killed in the railway catastrophe), William, the dearly loved husband of Georgina Nankervis, and beloved father of Raymond (also sadly injured), Elsie, and Clifford Nankervis, of "Glenig," Canning-street, North Carlton, aged 51.

NANKERVIS - The friends of the late Mr. WILLIAM NANKERVIS are respectfully invited to follow his remains to the to the place of interment, the Melbourne General Cemetery. The funeral will leave his late residence, 530 Canning Street, North Carlton, THIS DAY (Wednesday), 22nd April), at 4 o'clock.
