When Robert Foster Etheredge was born on July 14, 1920, in Birmingham, Alabama, his father, Joel Hillard Etheredge (1878-1977) was 42 and his mother, Nellie Cain Etheredge (1882-1961), was 38.

Paternal Grandparents: Shelby Perry Etheredge (1827-1896) and Melissa Jane Wood Etheredge (1849-1908) of Georgia.
Maternal Grandparents: Charles Erwin Cain (1858-1928) and Emma Elizabeth Kilgore Cain (1860-1929) of Georgia.

He married Joanna Reid Carson on August 28, 1948, in Summit County, Ohio. They had three children during their marriage; Robert Foster Etheredge Jr., Nell Carson Etheredge (1953-2002) and Nancy Etheredge Ryszkiewicz.

Graduate of Woodlawn High School (Class OF 1938) and the University of Alabama.

WW II Veteran. US Army, Lt., European theatre.

Served in the Alabama State Legislature and practiced law in Birmingham, Alabama with the firm of Spain, Gillon, Riley, Tate & Etheredge.   

He died on April 11, 1992, in his hometown, at the age of 71, and was buried there.
