Fay was an expert horsewoman and hunter and shared a love of field trials and hunting with her husband.
According to Tim Pennycuff, Asst. Professor and University Archivist at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, Fay Kerner was an early benefactor to UAB and funded the first endowed position at the university, the Fay Fletcher Kerner Chair in Surgery. It remains a highly prestigious appointment. She also gave money for other things at UAB, including their library. There is a room named in her honor at the Lister Hill Library. That is where her portrait hangs.
