Actor. O'Loughlin will perhaps best be remembered for his role as Lieutenant Ed Ryker on the 1970s ABC cop show 'The Rookies'. After serving with the Marines during World War II, he studied at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York on the G.I. Bill before becoming a member of the famed Actors Studio, which would lead to a few roles on TV and films during the 1950s. On stage, he landed the coveted role of Stanley Kowalski opposite Tallulah Bankhead's Blanche DuBois on a year-long national tour of 'A Streetcar Named Desire'. He also appeared in stage productions of 'Golden Boy', 'Who'll Save the Plowboy', for which he received an Obie Award, and 'The Dark at the Top of the Stairs'. His movie credits include 'A Hatful of Rain' (1957), 'Ensign Pulver' (1964), 'A Fine Madness' (1966), 'In Cold Blood' (1967), 'Ice Station Zebra' (1968), 'Riot' (1969), 'Desperate Characters' (1971), 'The Organization' (1971), 'The Valachi Papers' (1972), 'Twilight's Last Gleaming' (1977), 'Frances' (1982) and 'Crimes of Passion' (1984). From 1972 to 1976, he appeared on 'The Rookies' alongside Kate Jackson, Michael Ontkean and Georg Stanford Brown. He appeared in dozens of TV shows and made-for-TV movies, such as 'The Asphalt Jungle', 'Ben Casey', 'The Defenders', 'Run For Your Life', 'The Virginian', 'Hawaii Five-O', 'The F.B.I.', 'Something for Joey', 'The Blue and the Gray', 'Quincy, M.E.', Our House', 'Murder, She Wrote' and 'Judging Amy'. O'Loughlin, who resided at the Motion Picture & Television Fund Retirement Home, died of natural causes.
