Fred was a bachelor, Civil War pensioner from 29th Regiment of Indiana Volunteers, prospector, who disappeared after picking up his pension check near Victorville. He was highly literate, a wonderful letter writer, who stayed in touch with his Michigan family. After his disappearance his family wrote letters trying to find out what happened with no results. A skeleton was found in 1923, but later newspaper reports claimed that the person was probably too young to have been Fred. I chose Victorville Veterans Memorial as a "virtual" cemetery, so that Fred could have a memorial, so well deserved. He may remain somewhere in the mountains of Victorville.
