Mr. Davis was born In Sangamon county, Illinois, July 30, 1850. and for many years was identified with the public schools as an educator, serving as superintendent of schools In Minnesota and Wisconsin. He took charge of the Oshkosh public school In 1896 and served four years. When his term expired, he became associated with the Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce, acting as the first secretary of that organization.
Following his work in the commercial organization he went into the the insurance field, being one of the organizers of the Wisconsin National Life Insurance company and acting aa its secretary for a number of years, During the late years of his life he-had been identified with the Equity Life Insurance company. Although called from the city by reason of this affiliation much of the lime. Oshkosh continued to be his home.
He was a member of the Masonic order and also of the Odd Fellows.
Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Iwo daughters and two sons. The daughters are Mrs. Everett Skillings of Vermont and Mrs. H. D. Wakefield of Milwaukee. The sons are J, J. Davis and M. P. Davis. both of this city.
The funeral arrangements will be announced later. The service will be in private.
