A resident of 3415 Union Street, Eureka. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Viale, in 1957; by two sons, Lt. Robert M. Viale in Manila, The Philipines, and Pvt. Raymond Viale on Iwo Jima in World War II; and by a brother, Nelson Viale, in 1912. Father of Marvin Viale of Seward, Alaska; Jack Viale of Eureka; Mrs. Josephine Burns of Eureka; Donald Viale of Ukiah; Leonard Viale of San Jose; and Mrs. Margaret Halkides of Grenada Hills, Calif. Brother of Mrs. Alta Crutchfield of Ontario, Canada. Grandfather of Marlene, Janet, Karen, Nancy, Barbara and Elaine Viale; Charles Viale of the United States Army; John Viale, Jr., Paula Viale, Jeanne Viale, Sidney Burns, Mrs. Jacques Crapuchettes, Dennis Halkides, Robert Halkides, Jerry Viale and Christopher and Darcy Viale. He is also survived by eight great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A native of Tiberon, California, moving to Eureka in 1915. Age 80.

Private family services will be held at the Chapel of the Ferns Cooper Mortuary, Monday, October 12 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Harold Ranton of the Eureka First Christian Church officiating. Private concluding services will be at Ocean View Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Fund of the Eureka First Christian Church.
