MADISON — Marion Block, age 89, died after a brief illness on Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, at the Don and Marilyn Anderson Hospice-Care Center, with her family at her side. Marion was born in the Town of Springfield, on April 2, 1917, to John and Elizabeth (Wipperfurth) Maier. Marion's mother died soon after her birth and since her father had another toddler to raise and a farm to work she went to live with her maternal grandparents, Frank and Elizabeth Wipperfurth in Madison. She had wonderful memories of growing up on Dayton Street with her grandparents and large extended family, especially her beloved Aunt Martha. She loved spending the summer at her grandfather's cottage on Lake Mendota in Middleton. On June 10, 1939, Marion married Louis Block and they raised four children together. Louis preceded Marion in death in 1997, after almost 60 years together. Marion was a loving wife, mother and grandmother to whom family and home meant everything. Marion is survived by her children, Thomas (Jean Ashmore) Block, James (Terese Allen) Block, Carolyn (Mark) Roberts and Wayne (Leslie Hamilton) Block; and three grandchildren. Of Marion's many siblings, survivors include Edwin Maier, Rose Ballweg, Elizabeth Maier, and John Maier.
