Professional Basketball Player. "Chocolate Thunder", at 6 feet 11 inches tall, was known for his powerful dunks, which led to the NBA adopting breakaway rims due to him shattering the backboard on two occasions in 1979. He was the first basketball player to be drafted to the NBA straight out of high school when he was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers in 1975 with the fifth overall pick. He stayed with Philadelphia from 1975 through 1982 and then moved on to the New Jersey Nets from 1982 until 1987. He played with the Utah Jazz for one season in 1987, finishing his National Basketball Association (NBA) career with the Detroit Pistons from 1987 through 1989. His career NBA stats were 8,733 points (12.0 ppg) and 432 rebounds (6.1 rpg) along with 1,023 blocked shots (1.4 bpg). Following his NBA career, he had a brief stint with the Harlem Globetrotters, followed by other brief stints with the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the Continental Basketball Association. He also played overseas basketball for a few years. Most recently, he coached the Lehigh Carbon Community College men's basketball team.
