Jan was politically active in N.W. Pennsylvania and was on many boards and committees. For many years, she chaired the Northwest Commission throughout thirteen Pennsylvania counties. She had been the publicity director for Expo Erie, was the first woman trustee elected to the Erie Maennerchor Club, and was an Erie County Planning Commission board member and vice chairman.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Robert Owen.
She is survived by her lifelong companion, David Knablein; a nephew, Jason Owen; and many cousins and friends.
Burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
