Noah was the son of Thomas Chittenden (First Governor of the State of Vermont) and one of 10 children.

Noah was born in 1753 and was a farmer, and the first Sheriff of Chittenden Co. He also held the office of Asssistant Judge of the county court; judge of probate; Councillor from 1801-1811; representative of the town in general assembly for years, 1796, 1812, 1813, 1814; and was a director of the Vermont State Bank. He was one of the largest land owners to reside in the town, he took a lively interest of the Congregational Church at the Center.

He married Sally (aka Sarah) Fassett of Cambridge Vt (d/o John Fassett) and they had two children: Thomas b 1791 and Hannah b 1795.
