George was born on July 16, 1917, in Antigo WI, to the late George Sr. and Rose Strasser Close. He graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School in 1935. On Aug. 31, 1940, George married Marie Kraemer at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Manitowoc. He served with the United States Navy during WWII. George loved fishing on Lake Michigan, completing woodworking projects, and growing geraniums for landscaping around his home.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, and two grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, a goddaughter, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. George was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marie on Dec. 7, 2005, four sisters and two brothers.
Funeral held August 7th, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. Entombment is at Knollwood Mausoleum, Manitowoc. Military rites provided by VFW Otto Oas Post #659.
