Actress. A leading star of the Hungarian stage, she was famed for her performances in the classic repertory. Her notable portayals included Lady Macbeth in "Macbeth", the title role of "Antigone", Clytemnestra in "Elektra", Elmira in "Tartuffe", Cleopatra in "Antony and Cleopatra", Jelena in "Uncle Vanya", and the lead (spoken) part in Arthur Honegger's oratorio "Joan of Arc at the Stake". She also made sporadic appearances in films, among them "The Poor Rich" (1938), "Mickey Magnate" (1949), "The Centaurs" (1978), "Gloria" (1982), and "Oh, Bloody Life" (1983). Lukacs was born in Budapest, and made her acting debut in 1937. She was given a Lifetime Achievement Award as Actress of the Hungarian Nation in 2000.
