During his 15-year career he played in 447 games, including 101 international appearances, and scored 33 goals. Bozsik was born in Kispest, a suburb of Budapest, and began playing soccer as a child. He made his professional debut in 1947. At his peak he was Hungary's most popular sports star, his handsome looks compensating for the lack of grace in his playing style. After his retirement in 1962, Bozsik briefly served as a member of Parliament and on the board of the Kispest soccer franchise. In 1974 he was named manager of the National Team but had to resign due to a heart ailment, the cause of his death at 52. Jozsef Bozsik Stadium in Budapest is named for him.
