Sergeant John J. Cantillon, DSN 0325, was commissioned as a Police Officer on 03/01/1946 and entered the Saint Louis Police Academy. After completion of the academy he was sent to the 12Th District for his 1St uniformed assignment. Other assignments that followed were the 7Th, Bureau of Field Operation's, Bureau of Administration, Field Inspection & Evaluation, 4Th, 2Th, 5Th, and the 2Nd. On 12/18/1964 he was promoted to the rank of Corporal and assigned to the Bureau of Administration and remained there until he was promoted again on 02/07/1967 to the command rank of Sergeant. His 1St assignment in this capacity was in the Field Inspection & Evaluation Unit followed by other assignments in the 4Th, 2Nd, 5Th, and finally the 2Nd District. During his career Sergeant Cantillon was awarded 3 Letters of Honorable Mention on 12/01/1950, 04/01/1951, and 04/01/1952. When Sergeant Cantillon retired on 12/29/1982 he had completed 36.83 years of faithful and dedicates service to the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department. Sergeant Cantillon is the great uncle of Officer Michael Ronzio, DSN 8792, who is currently assigned to 1St District. Sergeant Cantillon was also a veteran of the United States Army and served during World War II landing at Normandy during the D-Day invasion. He was awarded a BSM (Bronze Service Medal) and a Purple Heart (with 1 oak leaf cluster) for his heroic actions during the war. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant.

John Cantillon, fortified with the Holy Sacraments of the church, died on Thursday September 17, 2015. He is survived by eight nieces and nephews, Mary Theresa Kinzel, Thomas Dohle, Peggy Hicks, Elizabeth Ronzio, Jack Spencer, Patricia Spencer, Kathleen Duffy and Joan Spencer as well as 20 great and 7 great great nieces and nephews.

Son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Thomas J. and Nellie (nee Dwyer) Cantillon, brother of the late Patrick M. Cantillon, and sisters Norien Dohle, and Mary Spencer, and a nephew Paul Dohle.
