US Congressman. A member of the Democratic Party, he served the State of Nevada's At-Large District in the United States House of Representatives from 1975 until 1983. He attained his law degree from Hastings College of Law in San Francisco and following service with the United States Army during the Vietnam War, he became Deputy District Attorney of Clark County, Nevada. For two years, he served as Clark County public defender and went on to become district court judge of Clark County, prior to launching his political career. During his tenure in Congress, he co-founded the Travel and Tourism Caucus and spearheaded the National Travel and Tourism Policy Act of 1981 signed into law by President Reagan. After leaving the government, he remained in Washington and resumed practicing law as well as working as a lobbyist. He died of complications from esophageal cancer. Santini changed his party affiliation to Republican and ran an unsuccessful campaign for US Senator in 1986. He lost the election to Harry Reid who went on to become a high ranking member in the US Senate.
