Age 80, passed away Sept. 15, 2015, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Denver, Colo.
She was born July 20, 1935, to Clarence Rolland and Sara (Vogt) Rolland in Geneva, Ill.
The family later moved to Jefferson, Wis., where Dee graduated from Jefferson High School. She went on to study nursing at the Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in Milwaukee.
After her pinning as a registered nurse, she joined the U.S. Air Force. While she was a flight nurse stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, she met Bob and married on June 24, 1959. She quickly grew to love his three children.
They served for five years in Japan before returning stateside to Ellsworth AFB in Rapid City, S.D. While they were stationed in South Dakota, their son was born and Dee left the U.S. Air Force having achieved the rank of captain.
Near the end of their time at Ellsworth, they made a trip to Frontier Ranch with their youth group kids and fell in love with Buena Vista. They purchased a lot in Trail West Village, hired a builder, picked a house plan and then returned to their duty in South Dakota.
For their next deployment they went back overseas to Ankara, Turkey. While there, the house in Colorado was built and their daughter, Ruth, was born. In October of 1967 they returned stateside and moved into the new house in Trail West.
When Bob was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, she stopped working to care for him full time. She cared faithfully for him until his death in 2002.
Dee continued her nursing career, working as a school nurse, public health nurse and home health nurse, as well as working for Mercy McNamara Hospital in Fairplay, the Department of Corrections and Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center in Salida.
