Delbert Cornwell Sr., 90, of Westville died at 9:33 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 23, 2015) at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville.

He was born on Jan. 25, 1925 in Georgetown, the son of Fred and Cora Allen Cornwell. He married Marie M. Timko on Oct. 25, 1947 in Westville. She preceded him in death after 67 years of marriage on Feb. 10, 2015. He was also preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Delbert is survived by his son, Delbert John Cornwell; his daughter, Barbara J. Massey; one grandson; one great-grandson; one granddaughter and two sisters, Betty Bonebrake and Edna Stal.

Delbert was a member of St. Mary's Church and American Legion Post 51 in Westville.

He served his country in World War II and was at the battle of Okinawa from April through September of 1945. He then went to Korea with the occupation troops.

He worked as a painter at the University of Illinois, then in construction. He retired from Conrail as an engineer after 37 years of service.
