William Montgomery Gardner Jr. was a civil engineer who drowned May 8, 1925 in the Mississippi River off Cones Island (30 miles south of Memphis) when sternwheel steamboat M.E. Norman capsized and sank. Body was recovered on July 9, 1925 when the death certificate was filed.
