Professional Hockey Player. For thirteen seasons (1947 to 1960), he played at the center position in the National Hockey League with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins. Born Fleming David Mackell, his father Jack Mackell (1896-1961) was a former NHL player who experienced Stanley Cup championships in 1920 and 1921. After a successful period with the St. Michael's College Majors of the Maple Leafs' organization, he was promoted to the NHL with Toronto during the 1947-1948 season. He was a contributor to two Stanley Cup titles (1949 and 1951), thus putting him in an exclusive category of fathers and sons who were part of a Stanley Cup winning team. After he was acquired by Boston, he produced a career-high 27 goals scored during the 1952-1953 season and achieved all-star status. During the 1957-1958 playoff run, Mackell led the league with 19 total points. In 665 regular season games, he compiled 149 goals with 220 assists. After retiring from hockey, he worked for a brewery and later in automobile sales.
