Rock Musician, Singer. Born Emil Lewandowski in Buffalo, New York, he is best remembered as one of the co-founders and three lead vocalists for the America rock band, Three Dog Night (TDN). In the early 1960s, Wells played in a few local bands in his hometown before joining the U.S. Air Force after graduating from high school. Upon his discharge, he returned to Buffalo and joined a garage rock called the Vibratos. The band traveled to Los Angeles, California and changed their name to the Enemies and performed in various clubs before landing a gig as the house band at the legendary Sunset Strip club, the Whisky a Go Go, for a year. The band had minor hits with "Hey Joe" and "Sinner Man" and appeared as themselves in the movie 'Riot on Sunset Strip' and in an episode of the TV series 'The Beverly Hillbillies." In 1967, Wells moved to Phoenix, Arizona and formed the group, The Cory Wells Blues Band. The following year, he returned to Los Angeles and along with vocalists Chuck Negron & Danny Hutton, became a founding member of Three Dog Night. With the addition of guitarist Michael Allsup, bassist Joe Schermie, keyboardist Jimmy Greenspoon and drummer Floyd Sneed to complete the classic lineup, Three Dog Night would go on to enjoy enormous success throughout the early to mid 1970s with 21 Top 40 hit singles and millions of albums sold before eventually breaking up in 1977. Among the Three Dog Night hits Wells sang lead on are "Eli's Coming," "Mama Told Me Not to Come," and "Shambala." In 1978, he recorded a solo album 'Touch Me.' In the 1980s, he helped relaunch Three Dog Night and continued to perform with the band up until September of 2015, before leaving the band for health reasons.
