Ruby B. Tays, 91, of Asenath Street, died at 2:05 a.m., Friday, November 6, 2015, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
She was born in Monterey, Tenn., February 6, 1924, the daughter of Houston and Nannie Bohannon. Ruby was one of 12 children. She married Joe L. Tays on May 27, 1939 in Monterey. They moved to Indiana, and she worked at Columbus Sportswear until her retirement in 1986. She was active at Mill Race Center, and was a member of the Happy Helping Hands group for many years, making dolls for Columbus Regional Hospital. Ruby was a dedicated member of the Free Methodist Church.
Ruby is survived by her son, Jack L. (Glenda) Tays; siblings, Edith Patterson of Monterey, Billy Walker of Florida, and Oples Walker of Tennessee; six grandchildren, James Tays, Jeff Tays, Laura (Carl) Cavaness, Amy (Darrin) Everett, Shelley (Bryant) Bultman, and Kevin Tays; great-grandchildren, Lindsey Thompson Christy, Karson Tays, Shelby Tays, Maxwell Bultman, Emy Tays, Avery Tays, Derrick Everett, Dylan Everett, Dalton Everett, Kira Pickett, Kendra Meadows, Kasey Foster, Devin Tays, and Jade Tays; seven great-great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband on November 9, 2000; her son, James L. Tays; four sisters; and four brothers.
