BODY FOUND ON TRACK
Francis Creek Man Run Down by Freight Train and Killed

Run down by a Chicago & Northwestern freight train some time Thursday night, the dead body of Joseph Podrabsky, a Francis Creek man, was found at the side of the railway track early today, mutilated almost beyond recognition. One arm was severed, a leg was missing and the body was cut in pieces that made the sight a revolting one.

Podrabsky was 36 years of age, unmarried and was employed as farm hand at Francis Creek.

No one witnessed the accident and - illegible -- though the position and condition of the body show conclusively the means of death. Podrabsky, who made his home with his parents on farm, had been at the farm of a brother Thursday to assist in threshing and was killed while returning home. He left his brother's farm late in the evening and it is believed he was run down by a freight train which passes through Francis Creek, northbound at 10 in the evening.

District Atty. John Healy and Coroner Louis Falge of this city were notified of the finding Friday morning but decided after an investigation that an inquest was unnecessary.

Podrabsky was a sober and industrious man and his death is believed to have been due to the darkness of the night. It is supposed that he was walking on the track and failed to hear the approach of the train.

The body was given into the care of the family and the funeral will be held Saturday.

Podrabsky is survived by his parents and one brother.

Joseph Podrabsky died an early death under the wheels of a freight train on Thursday evening last week.

He was a farmhand near Francis Creek and his mutilated body was found Friday morning. How the accident happened is unclear since there were no eyewitnesses. What is known is that the unfortunate man, who lived on his parents’ farm, helped his brother with threshing on Thursday. At sundown he visited the store of Joseph Zemans where he stayed about an hour and left for home after 9 o’clock. It is known that he was sober. The train went through the station northbound about 10 o’clock, and it must have hit the homebound man without the engineer noticing. The body was missing one arm and one leg which were found in the vicinity and the body was so mangled that identification had to be made from the clothing.

District Attorney Healy and Coroner Falge are investigating.

Notes From Melnik:
This vicinity experienced quite a shock last Friday morning when it was learned that the mutilated body of Mr. Joseph Podrabsky was found on the railroad track. He was last seen at Joe Zeman's place on Thursday evening about 9 o'clock. It is thought that he took the track while going home, and in some manner, was run down by the limited train northbound at about 11 o'clock p.m.

Mr. Podrabsky is a native of this county having been born and reared in this vicinity. He was 36 years of age.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Podrabsky and one brother Adolph, who are conducting farms in this vicinity.

The funeral was held Sunday at 10 a.m. from the home of his parents. Interment was at the Bohemian national cemetery, Francis Creek.

We extend our sympathy to the bereaved family.
