US Congressman. He served in the United States House of Representatives from 1947 to 1949 as a representative from Washington state's 1st Congressional District. He served in the United States Navy from 1917 to 1919 and as an officer in the United States Naval Reserve from 1941 to 1946. He was discharged with the rank of captain and was the recipient of the bronze star. Prior to being elected to Congress he served as treasurer of Kitsap County, Washington from 1926 to 1929, treasurer of Bremerton, Washington from 1933 to 1937 and mayor of Bremerton, Washington from 1939 to 1941. He was defeated for re-election to the U.S. House in 1948. Following his defeat he served as the superintendent of the Washington State Veteran's Home from 1949 to 1953 and as assistant state treasurer from 1953 to 1957.
