FRANTISEK BOHACEK
(1823 - 1911)

Notes From Melnik:
One by one the old settlers are passing away, and the names of those who were associated with the growth of this vicinity will soon be but a memory. Another one to close his eyes on earthly scenes was Frank Bohacek who passed away Thursday afternoon at the home of his son, Mr. Stephen Bohacek. He had been ill about seven days, illness resulting from a general break down, incident to old age.

Mr. Bohacek was born in Melnik, County Prague district, Bohemia, Jan. 12, 1822 and was therefore 88 years of age. He was married in Bohemia in 1847 to Miss Katherine Holup and a few years later they immigrated in this vicinity which has been their home since.

Mr. Bohacek was well known among the early residents. He was a quiet unassuming man who had many friends. The later years of his life he spent in retirement, after long years of toil. Since the death of his wife, in Oct. 1908 he made his home with his son Stephen.

He was the father of thirteen children, six of whom died in infancy. There are two sons surviving, Stephen of this vicinity and Joseph of Denmark and five daughters, Mrs. Frank Hamernik of Oconto, Mrs. Mary Hessel of Green Bay, Mrs. Anna Drasner and Mrs. Joseph Hostak of this vicinity and Mrs. Phillip Novotny of Oklahoma City, Okla., besides 26 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

The funeral was held Sunday, April 16th, at 10 a.m. from the late home. Interment was in the Francis Creek National cemetery.

Our sympathy goes out to the family in their sad bereavement.
