Anton Fierst, 68, a former Manitowoc County businessman, died Thursday in Bellin Memorial Hospital, Green Bay, following a brief illness.
Military funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc, the Rev. Richard Schmitz officiating. Burial will be in the Kossuth Evangelical Bohemian Reformed Cemetery, Francis Creek.
Born June 10, 1888, in Manitowoc County in the Town of Kossuth, Mr. Fierst was the son of the late Emon and Mary Albrecht Fierst. He learned the butchering business and operated a shop at Branch, Wis., from 1908 to 1918. After serving overseas as an ambulance driver in World War I, he married the former Anna Mleziva Nov. 17, 1919, in Manitowoc. They operated a butcher shop at Francis Creek until 1928 when he sold the business and entered the employ of the Pauly and Pauly Cheese Co. His wife died in February, 1930. Fierst moved to Manitowoc in 1938 and remained there for 10 years. In 1948 he moved to Green Bay with the cheese company and resided with a son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Christiansen. After 27 years in the employ of the Pauly Cheese Co., he retired Jan. ___(two lines underinked) ___ American Legion in Manitowoc.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ambrose Niemer of Manitowoc and Mrs. Christiansen of Green Bay; a brother, Charles of Melnik; and three grandsons.
Friends may call at the funeral home until the time of service on Saturday.
