DRESS IGNITED FROM FIREWORKS
Louise Eggleston dies From Injuries Received Wednesday.
PLAYING IN YARD
When accident Happened. Men Passing by the Place Ran to Rescue, But Flames Had done their Deadly Work. Much Sympathy for the Family.

Louise Eggleston, the bright little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Eggleston, on the south Highlands, died this morning from injuries received Wednesday by her dress catching fire while playing with some fireworks in the front yard of her home. The child was with several little companions when her garment ignited.

Some men passing by the place ran to the rescue and soon had the flames subdued, but not until the child had been badly burned.

Dr. Pressley and Dr. Carr were hastily summoned and everything possible was done for the child. At first it was thought that the little girl would recover, but a turn for the worse set in last evening and she died this morning.

The funeral will take place tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock, the interment to follow in Elmwood cemetery. Rev. Dr. L. S. Handley, of the Central Presbyterian church will officiate at the funeral.

Mr. and Mrs. Eggleston have many friends in the city and the sympathy of the community goes out to them in the hour of bereavement. (The Birmingham News [Birmingham, Alabama] Friday, 28 December 1906, Page:10; accessed and transcribed November 3, 2019 by Mary Jo.)
