James Bennett, Marenisco, Dies In Milwaukee
James G. Bennett, 76 of Marenisco, the father of Congressman John B. Bennett, died this morning in Columbia Hospital in Milwaukee, where he had been a patient for six weeks.
Funeral services are planned for Saturday. Details have not been completed. Burial will be in Milwaukee.
Mr. Bennett had resided in Milwaukee for the past six months, at 1026 East Juneau Ave., although he continued to maintain his home in Marenisco.
Mr. Bennett was born in Charlevoix, Mich. As a young man he went to the Upper Peninsula and began working in the lumber industry and was engaged in various phases of that work the rest of his life. He worked as a foreman, cruiser, and mill operator, and was familiar with all forest areas and activities in the Upper Peninsula from the time when it was all a wilderness.
He resided at various times at Nahma, garden, Iron River and Bonifas, Mich., before moving to Marenisco many years ago. He was an independent lumbering operator at various times, but mostly was associated with the William Bonifas Lumber Co.
Surviving Mr. Bennett are his wife, the former Mary Bonifas, and one son, John B. Bennett, of Ontonagon, and a daughter, Mrs. Don Trenary of Milwaukee. There are five grandchildren.
