Ostby, John G. age 76, a resident of Jacksonville, FL, died on Dec. 21, 2006 at Memorial Hospital of Jacksonville after a serious illness. John was born on March 1, 1930 to Roger Benjamin Ostby, Sr. and Elnore Karoline Lysne in Mason City, IA. John retired from St. Paul Public Schools in 1989 after 34 years as a teacher. With his first wife, Silvia, John had five children who survive him: Leah Ostby, Lori (Fred) Hanish, Elena Ostby, Frank Ostby, and Marissa (Jay) Henthorne. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and one great- grandchild from that union. In 1994, John married his second wife, Dianne, who survives him, along with her six children: Joey, Tony (Windy), Mike, Danny, Shaun (Meredith) and Terri and numerous grandchildren. John is also survived by his brother, Roger (Hannah) Ostby, and sister, Ellen Ostby Bauman, and their children and grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and twin brothers. John was a veteran, teacher, coach, poet, singer, actor, writer, avid sports fan and card- playing fanatic. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandpa, uncle, friend, and neighbor who loved all of his family dearly. We will forever remember his sense of humor, honesty, fairness, compassion and loving nature. A memorial service will be held at 5:00 PM on Mon., January 15, 2006 at Roseville Lutheran Church, 1215 W. Roselawn Ave, Roseville MN 55113, 651-487-7752, with a reception immediately following in the church Social Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Dianne Ostby c/o Eternity Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 4856 Oakdale Ave., Jacksonville, FL 32207, (904) 696-6896.
