Actor. He is remembered as a 20th-century American award-winning television actor. Following high school graduation, he earned a football scholarship to the University of Cincinnati where he was a three-year letterman from 1957 to 1959 and the recipient of the John Pease Award as best lineman. Being active in the music department, he graduated with a BA in music in 1960. The same year, he was drafted to play for the NFL football team, the Denver Broncos, but decided to go to New York City for an acting career. He did appear in a few successful stage roles on Broadway. Starting in 1963, he served two years in the United States Army before going to Hollywood to continue his acting career, beginning with a role on the television series "Peyton Place." He played the role of Candy Canaday, a cowhand, on the NBC television western series "Bonanza" from 1967 to 1970 and again from 1972 to 1973. After brief roles on other daytime soap operas, he revised the role of Steve Frame in 1981 in the love triangle between his character and the characters of Alice and Rachel, but his character was killed in 1983. From 1984 to 2011, he portrayed the role of Adam Chandler and his twin brother, Stuart Chandler, on the ABC daytime television soap opera "All My Children." This role reappeared in 2013 on "All My Children" and in 200 and 2005 on another soap opera "One Life to Live." For the nearly 28-year role of Chandler, he received sixteen Daytime Emmy Award nominations for Best Lead Actor and received the award five times. He appeared in a host of one-episode roles in various television series, including "Touch by Angel." He had an unremarkable film career with character roles. He married twice and had two daughters and a son. He died from the complications of Alzheimer's disease.
